Library Disbursements MRR Tech Funds

This year, $2,425,535 will be divided among the 63 library systems using the funding formula used in previous years.

Libraries will have an opportunity to choose their level of participation.  Libraries choosing either the Gold or Platinum level of participation will need to complete the Level of Participation Form.  The deadline to submit this form is Friday, October 13, 2017.

Following the descriptions of each level is an example.

PLATINUM PLUS – 100% of your allocation.

If this level is chosen, systems will need to do the following:

–Press release, incl. visuals (pictures or videos)
–Participate in Tech Summit roundtable at Directors Meeting
–Impact story for GPLS to share with legislature
–Strongly encouraged to present/participate in Tech Boot Camp
–Tech Spotlight on GPLS sites – (What the Tech?!)

PLATINUM – 75%

If this level is chosen, systems will need to do the following:

–Press release, incl. visuals (pictures or videos)
–Impact story for GPLS to share with legislature
–Strongly encouraged to present/participate in Tech Boot Camp

GOLD – 50%

If this level is chosen, systems will need to do the following:

–Press release, incl. visuals (pictures or videos)
–Impact story for GPLS to share with legislature
–Strongly encouraged to present/participate in Tech Boot Camp

EXAMPLE

If you choose the 75% or 50% level, the balance would go into the scaleable investment pot based on a distribution chosen by the library. For example:

ABC Library System has $100k

They choose the GOLD Level

They choose to distribute the balance as per the following:
PINES Upgrades: 70% = $35k
Loaner Kits Upgrades: 30% = $15k

Once you decide on your level of participation, you can then decide how to spend your allocation.  You have three options:

  1. Technology Only – You can spend all of your allocation on computer replacement, makerspaces, innovative technology. etc. (As in years’ past, we will provide a menu with volume discounts from which you can order.)
  2. Category 2 Only – You can spend all of it on covering post E-Rate discount Category 2 amounts (If you’re eligible for $100k for Category 2 and your discount is 80%, you would then still owe $20k. This MRR money would cover that. Please see this excellent breakdown from our friends in Maine for a breakdown of what you are eligible for.)
  3. Combination of Technology and Category 2 – You can do a combination of both. If you’ve spent what you can on Cat2 and still have money left over, you can spend it on computer replacement.
